You must be familiar with the 50/30/20 rule for budgeting. This way of budgeting is very popular in personal finance literature and a general rule of thumb to save enough money to retire comfortably.
Here’s my perspective on 50/30/20 rule as a womanly woman. The 50/30/20 rule states that you should be spending 50% of your salary on absolute necessities, 30% on luxury and entertainment and the remaining 20% on savings or investment. Now before I tell why you should not apply the 50/30/20 budgeting rule, it’s worth mentioning that this opinion only caters to women who are single/married with no ‘MAJOR’ monetary obligations towards their family.
When you decide to spend 50% of your salary on necessities, it means that you are probably taking care of everything in the household. Where else would such a hefty percentage go if it’s not being spent on rent, bills, transportation and groceries? Now if the husband or your family does not demand you to fulfill any of these obligations but yet you decide to do it as you can’t handle being dependent.
And if I could, I would shamelessly call these women stupid for doing such a huge disservice not just to their resources but also to their femininity. So let’s say you are not spending half of your salary on paying bills. Then where are you spending that money? designer clothes, handbags and cosmetics? And how do you think that is serving you?
If you are working 40 hours a week and then spending more than half of the salary on expensive things that have zero resale value meaning they are not investments (unless you are buying Chanel handbags). How and why do you think it’s improving your standard of living?
It’s stripping you off of your femininity because number one you are doing too much work. Doing a lot of work is not only going to age you but also signal the man that he is no good for you. Why else would he think otherwise when he can’t make you happy by spending any little on you?
If you are one of those blessed women who are well supported by the men in their lives then first of all be grateful and second of all start saving 60% of your salary. If you wish to be a strong feminine woman then keep the money in your bank account or invest it somewhere. As a woman be smart enough to realize that your overworking shouldn’t be wasted on material goods. If you must work then save a lot of money for your old age; 60% of your salary
I have a lot to say on this topic but this is enough to get introduced to the gold-digger side of me! haha I am just a woman 💖
