One of my new year’s resolutions was to start taking the skin care more seriously. My skin has always been very oily and prone to breakouts, but in Winters it gets very dry. I still get breakouts now and then but its because I tend to indulge in sweets and comfort foods especially in the Winter months. I used to believe that just drinking loads of water is going to compensate for my careless attitude towards my skin. Now, I have got to tell you that in your mid to late twenties, drinking water alone will not be enough for your skin. You will need some external help to lock the moisture in.
Updated Skin Care: Winter Edition
The updated skin care routine is specifically geared towards the Winter weather.
I use the essentials foaming Facial Wash by Clean and Clear to cleanse my face. After that I apply the essentials Moisturiser by Clean and Clear in a generous amount on my face and neck. The Moisturiser is really light-weight and provides enough moisture for the day time. For sunblock, I use Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen by Neutrogena in Broad Spectrum SPF 55. It is an amazing sunblock, dries within 2 minutes of application and never made my skin break out.
Once a Week
I use the St Ives Blemish Fighting Apricot Facial Scrub once a week. I have read tons of reviews on the internet about this scrub and so I decided to give it a try. It really did make a difference and I do feel my skin to be soft and glowy after using it. But here’s the thing, I only use it once a week as I am already suffering from dry skin and I do not want to agitate it any further. I always follow it with applying a generous amount of moisturiser to bring the moisture back into my skin.
If I have any makeup on, I’ll remove it using olive oil on a cotton swab. After cleansing my face, I apply essentials OLAY night cream for normal/dry/combo skin generously on my face and neck. The Night Cream works as a thick moisturiser and also restores the collagen in your skin.
I am not a fan of using petroleum jelly as it makes my hands look wrinkly. I recently discovered Cuticura moisture cream for Dry Skin and it is the best hand cream I have ever used to date. It dries fast but keeps my hands moisturised for a long time. I am gushing about this hand cream because my hands and cuticles get very ugly in Winters and not even the glorious combo of glycerin and petroleum jelly were any helpful.
If you ask me (Okay I know you didn’t ask me but let’s just pretend for the sake of it 😉 to filter the two most important products after a good cleanser for your skin. I would say a Moisturiser and a Sunscreen. Apply sunscreen even if you are just a teen, it would make a huge difference when you reach your late twenties to early thirties. By the way I also included a selfie of me just wearing a moisturiser and a sunscreen, the ones that are mentioned in my skin care routine above.
Have a great day! xoxo
